Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (1799-1839 AD), silver rupee, Amritsar mint, VS 1868, unlisted in G. Singh. Obv: 'Nanakshahi' couplet, version V; rosette symbol between 'Guru' and 'Gobind'. Rev: 'Julus' formula with Ber leaf symbol, 'Lion face' symbol in letter 'Laam' of 'Akal'.

As per G. Singh, a face-like symbol is observed in the 'Laam' of 'Akal' earliest in the year VS 1857 (G. Singh 01.22.05). The same symbol at the same place is also seen on the coins of the VS years 1865,1869 and 1872.
