Hindu Coins of Medieval India
Auction Date: 16-04-2026
Gold
Medieval Central India - gold coinage inspired by the 'Gangeya Deva' coins of Tripuri, 4½ masha denomination, (c.11-12th century AD), Deyel 'Lakshmi' 119c, 4.16g. Obv: Lakshmi seated cross-legged, facing. Rev: Nagari legend Shri Madga nge / ya visible in parts.
Very fine, Very rare.
According to Deyell, this variety of coins struck in the name of Gangeya Deva must have been a local issue, possibly of a feudatory ruler. Very similar coins bearing the name 'Raja Narayana' are also known. By and large, this series is much rarer than the usual 4½ masha coins of Gangeya Deva issued from Tripuri.
