Gupta Empire - gold dinar of Chandragupta II (c.375-415AD), 'archer X goddess on lotus' type, S. Kumar Class III, var. T.2, 7.84g. Obv: king standing, nimbate, facing left, holding bow in left hand and an arrow in right, Garuda standard in left field, crescent between king and Garuda, Brahmi legend Chandra below king's left arm. Rev: Lakshmi with halo and crescent above head sitting on a lotus, holding diadem and lotus flower, tamgha to left, Brahmi legend Shri Vikramah to right (shadows in strike due to die slippage).
Surface marks otherwise extremely fine, Very rare.
A rare variety with crescent added between the king's head and the Garuda standard.
