Rayalaseema, Upper Krishna Valley in Coastal Andhra Pradesh - alloyed copper coin of Maharathi Sadakani (c.200-250 AD), unpublished in major sources, 3.57g. Obv: elephant standing facing left; Brahmi legend Maharathi Sa(da)… above. Rev: six-arched hill topped with three dots, with wavy line below, flanked by a palm-tree to right and a sacrificial post (yupa) to left; all enclosed in a rectangular border.
Extremely fine, Extremely rare.
Sadakani' is a new ruler in the 'Hathi' family, not reported from Verrapuram excavations. It is possible that he was related to the imperial Satavahanas and served as a Maharathi in the twilight of the Empire in late 3rd century AD.
