The smallest fraction so far reported for Deshalji I's silver coins is a quarter kori (RDS 90.1). This coin is therefore a new and exciting denominational addition to Kutch's well-structured coinage. The reign of Deshalji marked a 'golden era' in early history of Kutch state. Freed from the risk of invasions, Deshalji gave over the fiscal management of his kingdom to one Devkaran Sheth. He helped to increase the revenue of state, at times using his own resources. Commerce was encouraged and the land revenue fostered by a useful system of accounts, and by setting up agents of the state in every town who helped the subjects to raise funds. By these means, Kutch's revenue went up to 18 lakh koris per annuum. The emphasis on sound fiscal management is witnessed in coinage issued in Deshalji's reign.
