Western Kshatrapas, Kardamaka dynasty, silver drachm of Damasena as Mahakshatrapa (c.222-238 AD), Fishman 18.2.149, Mint A, dated SE 149, 2.00g. Obv: Profile bust of king to right wearing flat cap and earrings, Greek legend around, date in numbers behind bust. Rev: Three arch hill (chaitya) at center surmounted by a crescent and flanked by sun and moon, wavy line (river) below, Brahmi legend in Prakrit language from 12 o'clock Rajno Mahakshatrapasa Rudrasihasaputrasa Rajno Mahakshatrapasa Damasenasa.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
SE 149 was the year in which Sanghadaman is known to have struck coins as a Mahakshatrapa, possibly owing to a short lived rebellion. Therefore, the coins of Damasena dated SE 149 are very rare.
