Satavahanas, alloyed copper coin of Chimuka, 'Elephant' type, Newase-Paithan region, (2nd-1st cent. BC), PAIC 2609, 6.47g. Obv: Elephant to right with trunk raised, four orbed symbol on its back, Brahmi legend around reading (Ra)no Vasathi(putasa)Siri(Chimukasa). Rev: Tree in railing with seven branches, ancillary symbols around.
Nearly extremely fine, Rare.
The Satavahanas were the most significant ruling dynasty in the Deccan after the Mauryan collapse. Puranas equivocally place Chimuka (skt. Srimuka) as the first ruler of the dynasty.
