The 'Ananda' chieftains rose to power in South- Central Karnataka after the decline of the Satavahanas in the region. The reverse motif of this coin bears similarity to the heavy lead coins struck by Kanha, the son of a Maharathi of the Sidaka family but on his coins the animal faces left.
