Lot No.314
AUC47
Independent Kingdoms
Auction Date: 10-08-2024
Silver
Maratha Confederacy, domains of the Kolahpur Chhatrapatis - silver rupee of Kolhapur mint (M&W T1) and ½ rupee of Panhalla mint (M&W T1), copying Muhammad Shah's couplet type issue of Azamnagar Gokak mint, diagonal line and three dots as mint-mark on reverse, 10.95g. and 5.53g. (2 coins)
Very fine, Rare.
It is almost impossible to tell issues of Kolhapur and Panhalla mints apart because they look exactly the same. Only difference must have been in the silver contents - issues of Panhalla are cruder and more debased than those of Kolhapur. They were referred to as 'Thigle' or 'Gulawani' rupees.
