Gold
Indus Valley Civilization (mature phase, 2500-2000 BC), gold ornamental diskette, to be strung into a necklace, 1.36g; 23.50mm.
Rare.
A large hoard of such diskettes was found in May 2000 at Mandi in Muzaffarnagar district, Western Uttar Pradesh. The hoard was contained in two bronze containers and included many varieties of spacer beads, hollow terminal beads, single and double bell-shaped beads, and thin circular diskettes, similar to this one. Unusually, this diskette has wheel like punch. If this is indeed the case, it would be the oldest example of employing this method. The technique and method of its manufacture are a testament to the skills and metallurgical knowledge of the Indus Valley Civilization.
