Lot No.18
eAUC04
Ancient India
Auction Date: 18-05-2024
Lead
Ancient Eastern Malwa - uninscribed die-struck coinage of Tripuri region, lead issue of Datta dynasty, (c.150-100 BC), not listed in PAIC, 6.50g. Obv: Swastika with taurine-ends and a standing human figure. Rev: tree-in-railing, standing human figure and six-armed symbol above partly visible river symbol (wavy lines with fishes).
Very fine, Rare.
Although the coin is uninscribed, its attribution to the Datta-group of kings at Tripuri is certain from the stylized Swastika symbol on obverse. Although the 'standing human figure' was a hallmark symbol for Tripuri, it is unusual to see it on both sides.
