Post-Mauryan tribal republics - Yaudheyas, copper coin struck in the name of 'Chitreshwara' as tutelary deity of the clan (c.50 BC-50 AD), not listed in PAIC, 7.36g. Obv: One-headed Karttikeya standing facing holding a javelin, with hand on hip, partly visible; Brahmi legend …gavato Chitre… to right. Rev: Deer facing left, Swastika above, six-arched hill to left, tree-in-railing to right.
Good very fine, Very rare.
The 'Chitreswara' coins are much rarer than the 'Brahmanya' coins. While the latter are struck in the name of Karttikeya, the former are issued bearing the name of Shiva, his father.
