Sultans of Bengal, Silver tanka of Nasir al-Din Nusrat Shah (1519-1531 AD), 'Tirhut/Srihat Mardan' type, ND, G&G B841, 10.25g. Obv: In ornamental circle, Arabic legend al-Sultan bin al-Sultan Nasir al-Dunya wa al-Din Abu al-Muzaffar. Rev: In ornamental circle, Arabic legend Nusrat Shah al-Sultan ibn Husain Shah al-Sultan Khallada Mulkahu Tirhut (Srihat) Mardan.
Good Very fine, Very scarce.
The legend 'Tirhut Mardan' suggests that these tankas were struck from the plunder from Nusrat Shah's campaign against Tirhut to the North. However, it has been suggested that the legend reads 'Srihat Mardan' and the campaign in question was undertaken against the region of Srihat (Sylhet) where a rebellion was brewing at this time.
