The Gazetteer for Bhir (Beed) district, Maharashtra State furnishes the information about Bhir and Dharur.

In mid-18th century, Sultanji Nimbalkar, a Maratha soldier deserted Shahu and joined forces of the Nizam, Asaf Jah I. He was assigned the district of Bhir and the Sarkars of Dharur and Pathri as part of his Jagir. His descendants, namely son Hanmant Rao and grandson Dhanpat Rao, continued to hold the titles to this Jagir. In 1773, Nizam Ali Khan confiscated the Jagir from Dhanpat Rao as he was not pleased with his conduct, particularly in the war with the Peshwa.

The date on this rupee suggests it was issued in 1767/68, when Dharur was still a part of the Nimbalkar Jagir. It is likely that a mint was run here for a very short time to settle dues with the Nizam. This coin is hitherto the only known example of Dharur mint in the name of Shah Alam II.
