Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

This is an extremely rare fraction of an unusual Mughal issue (for a full Kori of the same type see our Auction 26, lot 286, 21-1-2017, which hammered for INR 85000). Even though the coin does not bear a mint-name, the style of engraving and decoration make it absolutely certain that it must have been a product of Ahmedabad mint. Akbar's silver coins, struck to the local Kori/Mahmudi standards in various local types are known from South Gujarat/Baglana and Kathiawad/Junagarh areas. However, the Ahmadabad issues bears witness to the fact that such coins were also struck at the imperial mint; perhaps, their issue was prompted military campaigns in the mid-1590s which resulted in complete subjugation of Gujarat following the rebellion of Muzaffar III.
