Sultans of Delhi, Turks, silver tanka of Shams al-Din Kayumarth (1290 AD), AH 689, G&G D190, 10.93g. Obv: Arabic legend in rectangle, al-Sultan al-'Azam Shams al-Dunyawa al-Din Abu al-Muzaffar Kayumarth al-Sultan. Rev: In double rectangle set in circle, Arabic legend al-Imam al-Musta'asim Amir al-Mumineen; date and mint details in margin.
Extremely fine, Extremely rare.
Kayumarth was a three-year old boy when the nobles of his father Muizz al-Din Kaiqubad enthroned him fearing an attack from Jalal al-din Firuz Khalji and the incapability of Kaiqubad to face him. Firuz was however successful in his bid to power, and ascended the throne of Delhi, after defeating and murdering Kaiqubad and along with him the ill-fated boy Sultan Kayumarth. His coins are extremely rare.
