Early medieval North India - billon 'bull-and-horseman' type jital of Amrita Pala (c.before 1195), Deyell 228, 2.99g. Obv: stylized bull seated left, with Devanagari legend …Amrita Pa(la) above; additional letter Ra to left of bull's hump. Rev: stylized horseman facing right.
Good very fine, Rare.
Amrita Pala was the ruler of Budaon. In 1195 he was defeated by Muhammad bin Sam, who later issued billon jitals in the same style. This variety with an additional Ra is very hard to find.
