Gold
Indus Valley Civilization (mature phase, c.2500-2000 BC) - gold ornamental diskette, to be strung into a necklace, 1.98g.
Very fine, Very rare.
A large hoard of such diskettes was found in May 2000 at Mandi in Muzaffarnagar district, western Uttar Pradesh. The hoard was contained in two bronze containers and included many varieties of spacer beads, hollow terminal beads, single and double bell-shaped beads, and thin circular diskettes, similar to this one. Unusually, this diskette has three small indentations, which most likely suggest that they were marks left after purity checking. If this is indeed the case, it would be the oldest example of employing this method.
