Kaushambi (Vatsa) - monarchical coinage, alloyed copper coin of Jethabhuti / Jethamita (c.200-150 BC), unpublished in major sources, 7.45g. Obv:Female deity standing, holding one hand up and the other akimbo, traces of Kharoshthi legend to right and traces of brahmi legend Jethabhutisa to left. Rev: Deity standing facing in the same posture as on obverse, tree-in railing to right.
Very fine+, Very rare.
The coins of this unusual bilingual type from Kaushambi bear two legends- 'Jethamitasa' in Kharoshthi and 'Jethabhutisa' in Brahmi. The reasons why the name suffix was changed from '-Mitra' to '-Bhuti' in these different script are enigmatic.
