Roman Empire - silver antoninianus of Herennius Etruscus, son of Trajan Decius (emperor in 251AD), Rome mint, RSC 24a, 3.93g. Obv: Radiate draped bust facing right; legend Q HER ETR MES DECIVS NOB C around. Rev: Apollo seated left, holding branch & resting elbow on lyre; legend PRINCIPI IVVENTVTIS around.

Quintus Herennius Etruscus Messius Decius (c. 227 - June 251 AD) was elevated as a Roman emperor in 251, ruling jointly with his father Decius. When the Goth leader Cniva invaded the Danubian provinces, Herennius Etruscus was sent to fight him with Roman troops under Decius's command. They ambushed Cniva at the Battle of Nicopolis ad Istrum in 250, but were defeated soon afterwards at the Battle of Beroe. Herennius Etruscus was killed in the Battle of Abritus the following year, alongside his father.
