Ancient Eastern Malwa, Dasharna (Erach - Betwa valley) area - inscribed punch-marked copper coin of King Sahasrasena as 'Maharaja' (c.150-100 BC), not published in major sources, 2.50g. Obv:Three punches - 1x palm tree on top of six-arched hill, 1x Brahmi legend Maharajña Sa, 1x Brahmi legend hasrasenasa. Rev: Traces of sacrificial standard (Yupa) in a railing.
Extremely fine, Extremely rare
This is the first coin of Sahasrasena to have come to light with 'Maharaja' title. All previously known coins have 'Raja' title. It sheds important light on the order of political succession in the monarchical issues of Erachh region.
