Maratha Confederacy - copper paisa in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji, (c.1750-1800 AD), with Shri Raja Shiva/Chhetra Pati legends, struck most likely at a South Maharashtra/North Karnataka mint, counterstruck over an Adilshahi-inspired 'leaf'-type coin, 7.63g.
Very fine, Rare.
The undertype on which this Shivarai paisa is struck, was a popular design for local coins in the Northern Karnataka region, inspired by coins of Muhammad Adil Shah. Such coins were struck in the Raichoor Doaba, at places like Shorapur and Mudkal.
