Pre-Gupta Central India, 'Garuda' type copper coin of Shridhara varma (300-350 AD), unlisted in major publications, 1.23g. Obv: Anthropoid Garuda running to right. Rev: Garuda seated cross-legged in centre (partly visible); Brahmi legend Maharajadhiraja… around.
Very fine+, Very rare.
Shridhara Varma is known from his inscriptions at Eran and Kanakhera in Central India. He is described to be of 'Shaka' race and possibly, was related to the Western Kshatrapas of Gujarat. His coins are very rare and struck in the same weight range as the Nagas of Padmavati.
