Ancient Malwa, Central region, post-Mauryan uninscribed cast copper coin, (200-150 BC), not listed in Pieper, 8.30g. Obv: Arch within a railing to left, an elaborate gateway or Torana to right. Rev: Blank.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
The similarity of the 'gateway' motif to the Toranas of Sanchi or Bharhut Stupa monuments is astonishing and a very rare example of a corroboration of evidence between ancient Numismatics and Architecture.
