Early medieval Gujarat, Chapa (Chapotkata) dynasty of Wardhamanapura or Wadhwan, copper coin of Dharanivaraha, (910-930 AD), unpublished and historically important, 0.75g. Obv: Nandi seated facing right. Rev: Proto-Nagari legend Shri Dha ra/ni va/ra ha in three lines.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
Dharanivaraha, the Chapa king of Wadhwan ruled as the chief feudatory of Gurjara-Pratihara king Mahipala Deva. He is known from the Haddala copper plate grant presently in the collection of Watson Museum, Rajkot. He was a powerful ruler and called himself the 'chief amongst feudatories', but he was defeated by Avanivarman, the Chaulukya king of Patan in about 916AD.
