Post-Mauryan city-state coinage of North India, Kaushambi region, copper coin of 'Shosheni', 1.77g. Obv: Brahmi legend Shosheniye. Rev: Elongated crescent.
Very fine+, Very rare.
These coins were formerly recognized to be 'guild' issues of Kaushambi, with the legend read as 'Negamaye'. However, the inscription clearly reads 'Shosheniye'. Whether 'Shosheni' was the name of a city or a people, remains to be ascertained.
