Yadavas of Devagiri, Bhillama V (1185-1195 AD), gold 'Padma Tanka', early type, 3.79g. Obv: Nine punches: 4x stylised lion to right, 2x Kannada letter 'Shri', 1x Sankha shell with dotted outline, 1x lotus in centre and 1x Nagari legend …ma Deva, chesal mark. Not in MSCI-I.
Extresmely fine, Very scarce.
The early type of Bhillama V's gold coins derives directly from the Chalukya precursors with the 'lion' punches still employed. On later types the number of punches is reduced from nine to five.
