The existence of a Traikutaka ruler named Madhyamasena was known from the discovery of the Matvan copperplate grant, found in North Konkan. In the coin legend, the letter 'Dhya' in the king's name has been inscribed a bit stylized, however judging by the engraving hand of the other letters the best name to fit it would be 'Madhyama'. The copperplate grant does not mention the name of Madhyamasena's father but from the coins, he appears to be a son of Indradatta, and thus a brother of Dahrasena. The coin is of thus high historic significance. There has been a long debate about the chronological placement of the Traikutakas but numismatic evidence makes it clear that they ruled in 4th century AD. This has great importance for chronology of art, politics and history of the Konkan and Deccan, in general.
