Maharathis of Brahmagiri and Chandravalli region (Chitradurga district, Karnataka), 'Venhukuta' Maharathi of the Sidaka family, lead coin, 9.61g. Obv: Humped bull walking to left; Brahmi legend Maharathisa (Sidakanam Venhu)kutasa from 12 o'clock. Rev: Ten-arched hill surmounted by crescent to left, tree-in-railing to right separated by a small triangle headed standard. Unpublished in major publications.
Extremely fine, Extremely rare.
The Maharathis of Sidaka family ruling from Brahmagiri is more familiar by coins with legend mentioning 'Kalalaya Maharathi'. But it comprises of at least four other members whose coins have not yet been fully published. 'Venhukuta' Maharathi is one of them.
