Western/Southern India, votive imitation of a Roman gold coin, (200-300 AD), 1.71g. Obv: Roman style togate bust facing right, crude roman legend around. Rev: Crude representation of togate deity 'Justice' holding a staff in one hand and a pair of scales in the other, crude roman legend around.
Very fine, Rare.
Objects like this were mainly used as votive offerings, in construction of monuments like Stupas. A number of them have been found in excavations at Buddhist sites such as Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh and Devni Mori in Gujarat.
