Malayaman chiefs of 'Sangam' period, uninscribed die-struck 'horse' type copper coin, Tirucoilur region (50-100 AD), MCSI 207, 4.94g. Obv: Horse standing facing right, standard-in-railing symbol below its head; Ankush (elephant goad) above. Rev: River with fishes and a triangular 'mountain'-like symbol, supposedly representing a 'map'.
Very fine+, Rare.
The coins with Ankush symbol are the earliest of the Malayaman issues.
