The year 1860 was significant in the annals of the history of princely states of India, soon after the Revolt of 1857-59 was suppressed, the government of India passed from the East India Company to the British Crown. Many native rulers wholeheartedly welcomed this move and held ceremonies to reflect their loyalty to the Queen. It is plausible that this coin was struck especially for such an occasion. Only a few pieces of this type are known and they are all ex-mount. Evidently, people to whom they were given as a ceremonial gift, used them in jewellery as a life-preserving amulet. The weight of the coin is heavier than the usual Mohur standard and it was probably struck as the auspicious denomination of 1.25 Mohur.
