Kaushambi (Vatsa) (200-150 BC), monarchical coinage, alloyed copper coin of Jethamita (Jyeshthamitra), unpublished in major sources, 5.39g. Obv: Female deity standing, holding one hand up and the other akimbo, kharoshthi legend to right …thamitasa & traces of brahmi legend to left. Rev: Deity standing facing in the same posture as on obverse, tree-in-railing to right and arched hill above it.
Very fine, Very rare.
It is extremely unusual to find Kharoshthi legends on a coin struck so far to the East. There are more than one kings named 'Jyeshthamitra’ known in the monarchical coinage of Vatsa region. This seems to be the earliest of them all.
