Ananda' chieftains of Karnataka, 'lion head' type lead coin of Mulananda, (200-250 AD), unpublished in major sources, 4.95g. Obv: Lion's head with gaping mouth in centre, brahmi legend Raño Mulanandasa around from12 o'clock. Rev: Six arched hill on a platform of wavy line.
Very fine, Very rare.
The obverse motif of a lion's head is unique in the repertoire of typology of the coins of Satavahana era. The 'Ananda' chieftains rose to power in South- Central Karnataka after the decline of the Satavahanas in the region.
