The period between about 1530 and 1550 was chaotic in Kashmiri politics, with the rivalry between the local Chak dynasty, the Kashghari occupants and the Mughals under Humayun who later made the Kashghari noble Haidar Dughlat their vassal, all fighting for power. Nadir Shah was crowned three times in this turbulent period. Gold coins of his very short-lived third and final reign have hitherto not been known, until this coin surfaced. The fact that it belongs to his third reign is confirmed from its stylistic similarity with the coins struck in the name of Humayun by Haidar Dughlat, which immediately preceded this issue. A rare and important coin of an ephemeral reign.
