Gupta Empire, gold dinar of Skanda Gupta (455-470 AD), 'Archer' type, Altekar Var. A, S Kumar Class I, var. B, 8.58g. Obv: Nimbate king standing, wearing a tunic, holding a strung bow in one hand and an arrow in the other; a 'Garuda' standard to his left, Brahmi legend Skanda below the arm holding the bow and Brahmi letter Shri between his feet; legend Jaya…dhavi visible in parts around. Rev: Goddess Lakshmi seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding lotus in one hand and a noose in the other; Tamgha in the left field and Brahmi legend Shri Skandaguptah to right. Colour adhesion on reverse.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
The variety with Brahmi letter between the king's feet is extremely rare , S. Kumar enlists only three specimens known so far.
