Lot No.191
AUC34
Mughals
Auction Date: 10-08-2019
Silver
Jahangir (1605-1627 AD), silver rupee, 'Kalima' type, Ahmadnagar mint (off flan), with remnants of AH date on obverse, 11.49g.
About extremely fine, Rare.
The obverse of this coin shows what appears to be a wrongly engraved AH date. But on other coins, the same also looks like the name 'Gobind' written in small Farsi characters. It could well be the name of a die engraver. Names like 'Ram' and 'Chatur' are known inscribed on coins of Akbar, and some of Jahangir's issues of Berar mint have the letter 'Seen' as a die-cutters's initial incorporated in the design.
