Gupta Empire, copper coin of Chandra Gupta II (c.375-415AD), Malwa region, 'vase' type, 0.48g. Obv: vase of plenty (Kalasa) with tassels hanging out from the spout. Rev: Brahmi legend Chandra in ornate letters.
Very fine, Extremely rare.
Chandra Gupta II is known to have conquered Malwa from his rebellious brother Rama Gupta towards the end of 4th century. His minister Chhagalaga mentions in an inscription at Vidisha that he had come here with his master who wanted to 'win over the entire World'. After quelling the rebellion of Rama Gupta, Chandra Gupta II went on to conquer Gujarat from the Kshatrapas from his base in Malwa.
