Kadambas of Nagarakhanda (North Karnataka), anonymous gold fanam (1200-1300 AD), 0.38g. Obv: stylized depiction of Garuda standing in front of a lamp post. Rev: stylized depiction of Balarama, Vishnu's 8th incarnation, carrying a plough.
Extremely fine, Very rare.
The coins of this anonymous type were attributed to the Kadambas of Nagarakhanda by S. GovindarayaPrabhu in JONS 228. He published fanams with several incarnations of Vishnu, but the variety with Balarama was not among the coins he published.
