Satavahanas, Arsenical Copper coin of Naganika and Siri Satakani (100-50 BC), MCSI vol. 1, no. 141, 10.02g. Obv: Brahmi legend Naganikaya inscribed vertically in a pillar within a railing; (Ra)no Siri Sataka… around. Rev: 'Ujjain' symbol with Swastikas in each orb and Nandipadas in each quadrant, within a dotted rectangular border.
Fine, Very Rare.
Naganika was the first indigenous Queen to have struck coins in her name, jointly with her husband Siri Satakani. Famous for the dedicatory inscription in the Satavahana family temple at Naneghat, she is known to have performed several Vedic sacrifices, including two Ashwamedhas.
