Medieval Gujarat / Rajasthan, unattributed copper coin of (800-900 AD), unpublished and most likely unique, 6.72g. Obv: retrospectant lion in dotted rectangle in centre; incomplete proto-Nagari legend Shri Umadachchha Kara…. Rev: a design composed of floral motifs.
Very fine, Extremely rare.
Although it is not yet certain who struck this coin, it is no doubt a very interesting piece and the legend on it proves to be a challenge. Perhaps, a nuanced reading will help identity of the issuer. As per the palaeography of the legend, there is little doubt that the coin is struck in Western India and dates to about 9th century.
