Eastern Chalukyas / Pallavas, uninscribed potin coin, (600-700 AD), not listed in major publications, 0.90g. Obv: pair of fish. Rev: cluster of dots.
Very fine+, Rare.
Comparison with other coins of the Eastern Chalukya series reveals that the 'cluster of dots' on the reverse are in fact remnants of the lion motif seen on larger units. The fish on the reverse might suggest that the coin was struck by the Pallavas during one of the stints in which they occupied Chalukya territories.
