Shilaharas of South Maharashtra / Paramaras of Vidarbha, silver ½ dramma coin of 'Bhojadeva', (1100-1200 AD), 0.33g. Obv: anthropomorphic Garuda holding snake, facing right in a 'Veera' pose. Rev: Nagari legend in two lines Shri Bhoja / Deva.
Very fine, Very rare.
Since the Garuda was the dynastic emblems of both the Shilaharas and the Paramaras and there were rulers named 'Bhoja' in both dynasties, it is difficult to attribute this coin to any one of them. The Shilahara attribution to Bhoja II (1175-1212AD) seems more probable because coins of the Paramara Bhoja are known in a very different (lion) type.
