The term 'Maharashtrikasya' in the inscription on the sealing is extremely interesting – Sihila, the person whose seal is stamped here, obviously regarded himself as a 'Maharashtrika', or 'from Maharashtra'. The same term is used by a commander named Satyanaga to identify himself in the Kanakhera inscription of Saka king Sridharavarman. These constitute the earliest references to people identifying themselves as 'Maharashtrians' and are very significant for social and cultural history of Maharashtra.
