Gupta Empire - gold dinar of Chandra Gupta II (c.375-415 AD), 'Chhatra'-type, S. Kumar Class II Var. A.2, 7.86g. Obv: Bare-bodied king standing offering oblations with one hand on the hip; dwarf attendant standing behind him, holding an umbrella (Chhatra) aloft. Rev: Goddess Lakshmi standing facing left, holding lotus flower in one hand and scattering round objects (coins) with the other; Tamgha in the left field, Brahmi legend Vikramaditya on her right.
Flan little crack, Very fine, Extremely rare.
A rare variety of the 'Chhatra' type with two variations from the usual depictions: king bears no sword and the goddess does not have a noose in her hand. Instead, he rests his hand on the hip and the goddess is shown scattering oblations or coins with her right hand.
