Shah Alam II (1759-1806 AD), silver rupee with pseudo mint-name 'Shahjahanabad', AH 1208/RY 37, 'Sahib Qiran’ legend and an umbrella mark on obverse, a whorled 'star' to the left of the RY on reverse, 11.10g.
Extremely fine, Rare.
It is evident that the coin was not struck in the imperial mint at Shahjahanabad but at another place, with 'Shahjahanabad' as a mint name. Coins with 'Shahjahanabad' as a pseudo mint-name with the distinguishing symbol of the star form a long series which runs for several years, till the end of Shah Alam II's reign. In RY31, the couplet on obverse changes to 'Sahib Qiran' variety.
