Ancient Tamil Nadu - Chera dynasty, uninscribed die-struck copper coin ascribed to the 'Sangam Age', (c.150-50BC), MCSI 35-36, 6.72g. Obv: symbolic configuration - elephant facing right, arched hill to its right, strung bow-and-arrow above, fish to its left, wavy line and battle-axe at the top. Rev: strung bow and arrow.
About extremely fine, Rare.
The attribution of these coins to the Cheras is based on the device of bow-and-arrow which was the dynastic emblem of the early Cheras.
