Hammira Deva was the last ruler of the Chahmana dynasty of Ranathambhorand a descendent of the famous Prithviraj Chauhan. During first 12 years of his reign, Hammira Deva fought 17 battles and won 13 of them. He annexed Malwa, Abu and Mandalgarh and extended his kingdom to such an extent that he became a rival to Alaud-Din Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi. The Sultan was victorious in 1301, after several campaigns, in a bloody siege in which Hammira Deva was killed. The legend on this coins means names Hammira Deva as its 'creator' and as the 'beloved son' (Pree = Priya) of his father Jaitra Simha. It bears the date Sa(mvat 14)43 which equals to c.1285 AD. It is possible that it was struck as a commemorative for a campaign victory. The fact that Hammira had issued gold coins is corroborated by the demand of 10,000 gold coins made from him by the invading Islamic army in 1299.
