Kadambas of Hangal, Gold Punch-marked Gadyana of Kirttivarman II (1165-1175 AD), 3.74g. Obv: Ten punches - 4 x lion to right, 2 x Kannada letter 'Sri', 1 x Nagari legend 'Kirtti', 1 x Nagari legend 'Veera', 1 x a human figure riding a horse/buffalo in centre.
Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
The attribution of these coins to the Kadamba king Kirttivarman II of Hangal is tentative. One coin attributed to this ruler has been published but it bears the word 'Kirtti' stamped twice and the central punch is of Yama, the God of death riding a buffalo. These coins are very similar in design to the published coin, but the legend as well as the nature of the central punch are different.
