Gupta Empire, 'Chandra Gupta III' (c. 500-550 AD), Gold Heavy Dinar, 'Archer'-type, Altekar Class II Var. O, 8.20g. Obv: king standing with bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. Brahmi legend Chandra below his hand holding the bow. Garuda standard to the left of the king. Rev: Goddess Lakshmi seated on lotus, holding a lotus in one hand and a noose in the other. Tamgha in the left field, Brahmi legend Sri Vikramah on her right.
Very Fine +, Rare.
Coins of this type are attributed to Chandra Gupta II by Altekar, but judging by difference in weight and style, PL Gupta suggested they belonged to Chandra Gupta III.
